The Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Metro DC (PACC-DC) and The Filipino Young Professionals of DC (FYP-DC) cordially invite you to join us on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Tyson’s Corner Marriott from 6:30pm-11:00pm for “A Night in Manila: It’s More Fun in the Philippines,” a Monte Carlo fundraising event to help fund community development initiatives in 2015.
PACC-DC and FYP-DC 2015 initiatives include bringing business leaders and young professionals together to strengthen and empower the Filipino and Filipino American communities both locally and internationally. These include:
Working with other Fil-Am Chambers of Commerce on the White House Initiative on Asian American Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) project: Capacity Building for Filipino-American Chambers of Commerce. This is project being led by the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey.
Connecting with Fil-Am collegiate organizations to encourage college students to be involved in their local communities
Developing working relationships with the Metro Washington, DC start-up community, including business incubators and the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide more resources for our members to learn and succeed
Providing social and networking opportunities connecting different segments of our community in the Metro DC area
Connecting with the next generation of emerging Fil-Am business leaders and encourage them to start their own businesses or take their existing one to the next level
Developing business relationships between those in the Philippines and those here in the U.S.
We are seeking support from the Fil-Am community and our friends and supporters to help us in making this event a success. A portion of all proceeds from “A Night in Manila” will also benefit the humanitarian work of Feed the Hungry, Inc. and Worlds Apart One Heart, Inc. who focus their volunteer and relief efforts in the Philippines.

Feed the Hungry, Inc.
Feed the Hungry, Inc. is a wholly volunteer-driven organization and started as a gift-giving and feeding project for indigent children in the Philippines. The non-profit organization’s numerous projects now include feeding and nutrition, educational projects (scholarships and books), infrastructure (classroom building and water systems), gift-giving (orphanages, homes for the aged), livelihood, calamity relief and emergency medical assistance. Their programs as designed to help alleviate poverty and improve the economic conditions of the poorest of the poor in the Philippines, as well as other countries in need. Feed the Hungry, Inc., based in Metropolitan Washington, D.C., was founded in 1993 by Tessie Calderon-Alarcon and her husband Pablito Alarcon. (source: http://www.feedthehungryphil.org)
Worlds Apart One Heart, Inc.
Rose Hankins collects donated medical supplies from Moses Cone Health system, where she works. She has the supplies mailed to the Philippines and organizes fund-raisers to cover the costs of buying medicine, funding freight or even drilling a well in a Filipino slum.
Then, once a year, she and a small team of volunteers and local medical professionals fly halfway around the world to Leyte, a small island of fishermen, farmers and laborers where Hankins grew up. There the team helps Filipino doctors administer free medical treatment. And the people come by the thousands.
Hankins continues to gauge the medical need of her homeland for her next mission trip. She’ll collect more medical supplies, organize more fund-raisers and deposit more money she and her volunteers have raised in their account at Jesus Our Victory Church.
