The Filipino Young Professionals of DC and the Filipino American Lawyers Association of DC will be collaborating for an exciting event as part of their professional development series.
Many folks think about going to law school, especially in DC, but many are unsure of this career option. FALA & FYP will be hosting a panel to talk about law school as an option with FALA members sharing why they decided to go into law school and at different stages in their career. Hear from folks who went right after undergrad, after receiving a masters, or even after working for several years. We want attendees to realize there are many paths to law school and it is accessible to everyone no matter how old you are or at what point you are in your professional development.

Please join us for our 11th Annual Multi-APA Collective Toy Drive.
We have been doing this for over 10 years and DC Asian Pacific American Film – APA Film & NAAAP DC along with Christian Oh helps get all these other community and APA organizations to help collect toys for charity. This year we are going back to collect toys for Toys for Tots. Considering all the natural disasters our country has faced, they will need so much more toys to be collected. Thus, we are trying to bring a new record amount of brand new donated toys. The format is simple. Basically, we ask that attendees bring an UNWRAPPED toy and take in the fun and networking spirit of the holidays. (If you don’t bring a toy, we ask for a MINIMUM $10 donation).
Please get in the spirit of the holidays and help make a child’s Christmas a little warmer! If your APA group wants to participate, please contact us! Food & Drink Specials will be available all evening and bring your business cards to network and mingle. (more…)
The Filipino Young Professionals of Washington DC (FYP-DC) invites you to attend our 2017 Leadership Conference ‘Unite, Magakisa’ at Georgetown University’s Healey Family Student Center (see directions and parking information below) this Saturday, Sept. 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
FYP-DC aims to elevate the Filipino-American professional to achieve success in their career. The ability to collaborate is crucial for career success, and this is why FYP-DC will host its first-ever conference to discuss the importance of working together.
Our conference theme, ‘Magkaisa’ (Unite), stems from the idea that we need to work together as a team to reach our goals. The combined effect of a team is greater than the sum of individual efforts. When individuals unite together it creates a diverse environment leading to enhance creativity and decision-making. The collaboration will lead to an increased success in our ability to problem solve in an efficient and effective manner. We believe this can only happen if we unite, together. (more…)
Come meet the fresh Executive Board for FYP. Christal, John, Stephanie, Walbert, and Nicky are going to be leading the charge this year! Additionally, we are thrilled to have two special guests sharing their stories at our event:
- Patrice Cleary, owner of Purple Patch (our favorite restaurant!), is one of our special guests. After spending 8 years in the Marine Corps, Patrice turned her passion for cooking into reality by opening Purple Patch. The restaurant has garnered many accolades, including being named in the Fall Dining Guide as Tom Sietsma’s top 37 restaurants to dine in DC, it is also Tablelog’s top 9 Filipino restaurants in America. And it holds the distinction of being the first Filipino restaurant in Washington, DC.
- Sonny Busa, Consul General, is the Filipino Veteran Recognition and Education Project (FilVetREP) regional director for Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia. He is tasked with organizing support and fundraising for FilVetREP initiatives and programs. Sonny Busa recently retired from the US Department of State with the rank of Consul General after 25 years of distinguished service at overseas postings in Honduras, Korea, Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, Ethiopia, and Kuwait. Latin America.
We are truly honored to bring these two prominent Filipino leaders to our members and friends. To learn more about Patrice Clearly and Sonny Busa, join us at the Habit at Purple Patch, February 16th, 6 P.M. We will have drink specials and lumpia (while it lasts) for attendees.
(Suggested donation of $10; $20 gets you a year long membership.)
Also, we will have a sweepstakes only for those whose status is ‘GOING’ on Facebook—perhaps a dessert, a drink, or a free membership. Good Luck! 🙂
