FYP-DC Statement Against Hate Towards Asian-Americans
The Filipino Young Professionals of DC (FYP-DC), in conjunction with the White House and the DC Mayor’s Office, condemns and denounces all acts of racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI).
Since our founding, FYP-DC has always organized its events to foster inclusion, diversity, and education throughout the Filipino and broader AAPI communities. However, AAPI businesses, neighborhoods, and families are at risk as a result of aggressive COVID-19 rhetoric. We stand in solidarity with, and our prayers go out to Noel Quintana, Helen Oh, Bawi Cung, Vincent Chin, and all victims of AAPI related hate crimes.
Although acts of hate toward Asians continue, the Filipino and broader AAPI DMV community must never forget what emboldens us to be proud of our identity and heritage. AAPIs did not cause the COVID-19 pandemic and the biological nature of COVID-19 does not discriminate based on race and ethnicity. FYP-DC will continue to work with our stakeholders to support efforts that prevent discrimination, bullying, harassment, and violent crimes against AAPI individuals and their communities.
